Description
The gates, gate piers, and walls to the former Bevendean Hospital were built around 1900, likely designed by Francis JC May. They are made of red brick, stone, and iron. The structure features four piers that are square at the bottom and octagonal above, with alternating bands of stone and brick. The cornice has egg-and-dart moulding, and there is coved coping with a finial. The central carriage entrance has double gates, while there are single pedestrian entrances on either side, with the gates adorned with Art Nouveau-inspired arabesques. Low walls flank the piers along Bevendean Road, curving in plan and topped with stepped stone coping, with piers at each end.
