Description
The Baldwin Mausoleum, located in Brighton Extra Mural Cemetery, is dedicated to Edmund Chaplin Baldwin, although his birth and death dates are not recorded on the structure. It was built around 1930 by architect John Leopold Denman and is situated approximately 55 meters southeast of the cemetery chapel. The mausoleum features a rectangular plan and has a neo-Byzantine style, characterized by a central dome and round-arched mouldings that rise above the cornice on the north and south sides. It includes transept-like arms with similar arches extending to the east and west. The west side has a round-arched entrance flanked by engaged columns, with capitals and archivolts adorned with interlacing designs. The entrance is fitted with a bronze door that bears inscriptions, and there are windows on the north and south sides shaped like a stylized cross.
