TQ3205NW LEWES ROAD 577-1/23/378 (East side) Brighton Extra Mural Cemetery: Baldwin Mausoleum

Mausoleum of Edmund Chaplin Baldwin whose birth and death dates, however, are not recorded on it. Approx 55 metres south-east of the cemetery chapel (qv). c1930. By John Leopold Denman. Stone on a base of black marble. Rectangular in plan and neo-Byzantine in feeling, with a central dome, round-arched mouldings breaking above the cornice on the north and south sides, and transept-like arms, similarly arched, to east and west. Round-arched entrance in west side with engaged columns, the capitals and archivolts decorated with interlacing; bronze door with inscriptions; windows to north and south in the form of a stylised cross.
