Description
22 Ship Street is a terraced house that has been converted into shops. It was built around 1800 and underwent late 19th-century alterations for its current use. The exterior features cobbles with painted brick dressings and quoins, topped by a tiled roof. The building stands three storeys high and has a three-window range.
The ground floor showcases well-preserved late 19th-century shop fronts with three entrances. The doors and overlights display original panelled and faceted glazing. Slim cast-iron columns support the shop windows, which are adorned with ornamental cast-iron spandrels featuring fan decorations that form elliptical arches, each with two small pendants at the center. The central entrance also has similar spandrels. An egg-and-dart cornice is largely obscured, and the fascia stops at either end. The upper windows are all segmental-arched with keystones, while the outer windows are tripartite. The building has a parapet and side stacks. The interior has not been inspected.
