Description
This is an early 19th century terraced house, later altered and extended to incorporate shops in the late 19th or early 20th century. The original building is of yellow brick in a header bond, with stucco and a roof hidden behind a parapet. It is three storeys high, with a basement, and has a three-window front. The central elliptical-arched entrance has a doorcase with pilasters, a panelled archivolt, and a keystone. The entrances are flanked by shop fronts retaining original glazing bars with quadrant corners, basement grilles, quadrant-cornered doors and overlights; the pilasters are fluted in the lower part and panelled above, and deep fascia brackets are fluted with antefixa. The upper windows are cambered-arched and have mid-19th century sash windows. A stucco band marks the entablature, beneath a cornice and parapet, with side-stacks. Inside, the staircase has a curtail step, a wreathed rail, a fluted newel, stick balusters and an open string. The building continues to the corner with Prince Albert Street as a two-storey stuccoed block, incorporating the shop front which extends to ten bays, retaining original details similar to the main section. The corner section has three shop windows on the first floor, flat-arched windows above and a dentil cornice, topped by a slate hipped roof.
