Description
62 Ship Street is a terraced house located in Brighton, dating from the early 19th century, and possibly refronting an earlier building. The exterior is finished in stucco with a tiled roof. The house has two storeys and features dormers, arranged in a two-window range. The front of the building is flanked by chamfered quoins.
The entrance is round-arched and includes a fanlight with intersecting glazing bars, which has been painted over, and panelled reveals. This entrance is framed by engaged Doric columns, an entablature, and an open pediment, the latter of which has been recently renewed. The ground floor has two flat-arched windows, with the one on the right being broader. On the first floor, there is a segmental oriel with a tripartite window to the right and one flat-arched window to the left. The sashes throughout the building are of original design.
The house also features gutters and two flat-arched dormers. Although much of the back has been rebuilt, it retains a small stone plaque with the date 1713 and the initials R/I/T. The interior has not been inspected.
