Description
Numbers 41 and 42 Norfolk Road are a pair of early 19th-century terraced houses. The facades are stuccoed, with the roofs hidden behind a parapet. The properties are three storeys high, with a basement, and each has a three-window front. A flight of steps leads to a flat-arched entrance with pilasters, an architrave, and a stepped blocking course; the recessed doorway to Number 42 has a moulded architrave and overlight. The ground floor features banded rustication extending as far as a moulded storey band. Segmental bay windows are on either side, flanked by pilasters; the left-hand bays extend from the basement, while the right-hand bays have been cut back at basement level. Flat-arched windows are found on all floors within the right-hand bays, while simpler flat-arched windows are present on the left. Number 41 retains sashes of their original design in both bays, except that the first-floor right-hand window has likely been lowered. Central flat-arched windows are positioned above the entrances, all blank except for the second-floor window of Number 41. A stepped frieze and moulded cornice are surmounted by a blocking course, with stacks visible on the party walls. The interior was not inspected during the listing process. Cast-iron area railings, finished with spearhead finials, are attached to the front of the properties.
