Description
A former school, now offices, was built in 1855 for Fr. George Wagner and extended in 1895, as indicated by an inscription. The building is constructed of knapped flint with stone dressings, and has a slate roof. It is two storeys high and has a four-window front, designed in a Gothic style. The front facade is symmetrical, but the building steps down to accommodate the slope of the street. A pointed-arched entrance is on the north side, featuring elaborate strap hinges; the original southern entrance is now a window. Two bands of dressed stone run across the front: one slopes from the lower part of the north entrance to a similar point on the south, and another runs horizontally from just below the springing of the north entrance to just below the apex of the south; a shallow, stone niche sits between these bands at ground-floor level. The principal windows are flat-arched with hoodmoulds, and have wooden flat mullions and transoms dividing the glazing. Smaller windows are positioned above the entrances. Ground-floor windows retain iron window-guards, likely added in 1895. A moulded string separates the floors, and a moulded parapet tops the building. The roof is hipped. The interior was not inspected.
