Description
This lamp post, located in front of number 28 on Queen's Park Rise in Brighton, is a mid to late 19th-century gas standard that was adapted for electric light in the late 19th or early 20th century. It is made of cast iron and another metal. The post has straight sides and is designed as a fluted and tapering Tuscan column, featuring a single maintenance arm. At the top, there is a plain cylindrical impost. Above this, a timing mechanism marked "BLEECO" serves as a base for a swan-necked, tubular bracket, which is supported by a metal fillet shaped like a tendril. The lamp post also includes a shallow dish reflector.
