Description
This lamp post, located in front of Number 8 on Queen's Park Rise in Brighton, is a gas standard from the mid to late 19th century that was adapted for electric light in the late 19th or early 20th century. It is made of cast iron and another metal. The post has straight sides and is designed as a fluted and tapering Tuscan column, featuring a single maintenance arm and topped with a plain cylindrical impost. Above this, there is a timing mechanism marked BLEECO, which serves as a base for a swan-necked, tubular bracket that is supported by a metal fillet shaped like a tendril. The lamp post also includes a shallow dish reflector.
