Description
The lamp post in front of Number 41 on St Luke's Terrace in Brighton is a Grade II listed gas standard, dating from the mid to late 19th century. It was adapted for electric light in the late 19th or early 20th century. This lamp post, located opposite Queen's Park School, is made of cast iron and another metal. It features a straight-sided design cast as a fluted and tapering Tuscan column, complete with a single maintenance arm. At the top, there is a plain cylindrical impost. Above this, a timing mechanism marked BLEECO serves as a base for a swan-necked, tubular bracket, which is supported by a metal fillet shaped like a tendril. The lamp post also includes a shallow dish reflector.
