Description
22 and 23 Prince Albert Street is a terraced house with a rear extension, known as No. 1 Nile Street, which has been converted into a restaurant and offices. It dates from the early 19th century and is finished in stucco, with a roof obscured by a parapet. The building has three storeys above a basement and features a three-window range.
On the ground floor, there is a 20th-century flat-arched entrance at the right party wall, framed by pilasters. The rest of the ground floor is occupied by the restaurant, which has a wood shop front from the 19th century, featuring Tuscan pilasters similar to those around the entrance and a broad entablature with a projecting cornice. The central range has blocked flat-arched windows with projecting sills, while canted bays on either side extend to the first and second floors, with flat-arched tripartite windows. These bays stop just short of a continuous entablature band, with a parapet above and stacks at the party walls.
The Nile Street elevation is also faced with stucco and has a single storey with six bays. The front is designed as a Tuscan pilastrade, with a flat-arched entrance in the third bay and a much-altered 20th-century entrance in the fifth bay. The remaining bays are glazed with panelled spandrels. The interior has not been inspected.
