Winkfield Row, Ronans

This large house is located in Winkfield and was originally built in the early 18th century, with significant rebuilding occurring in the early 19th century, and later alterations in the 20th century. The house is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with an old tile roof to the earlier section and a slate roof with Dutch gable ends to the later section. The plan is now irregular.

The exterior is two storeys with a basement and attic, featuring a rendered plinth and a rendered band at the spring of the ground floor arches, topped with a dentilled cornice to the Dutch gables. Two chimneys have corniced heads and clay pots, and there is a flat-roofed dormer at the rear and side. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars and are set within rubbed brick arched heads.

The east front, which serves as the main entrance, comprises a three-bay earlier section with a single-bay extension featuring a Dutch gable on the left side. The ground floor windows have stuccoed fans in elliptical arched heads; the third window has a similar head that is now partially covered by a 20th-century glazed porch, accessed by four stone steps. External louvred shutters are present on all windows except for the tripartite window on the ground floor.

Inside, a dog-leg staircase from the early 19th century features stick balusters and a mop handrail.
