Description

The Manor House is a house with early 18th century origins, which was remodeled in the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and is colourwashed, topped with slate roofs. The building has two storeys and attics, featuring three bays. It has a central direct entry plan that originally included two rear wings, which have since been infilled. The house has corner pilasters, and the central bay projects slightly forward. On the ground floor, there is a glazed door beneath a fanlight with radial glazing, set within a Tuscan porch and flanked by narrow 10-pane windows. To the right and left are tripartite sashes with glazing bars, all under flat gauged brick arches. The first floor features tripartite sashes on either side and a 20-pane sash above the door. The roof is hipped with axial stacks at the right and left rear wings, and there are three raised gables at the rear. Inside, there is an early 18th century cut-string staircase with barley-sugar and fluted balusters, a ramped moulded handrail, and a ramped dado rail over raised and fielded panelling. An early 19th century fireplace is located in the room to the left of the main elevation, with early 19th century doorcases throughout. A building in this location shown on a survey from 1732 has the same plan as this house and is likely to be identified with it.
