Description

Hill House is a house dating from the late 18th century, featuring a small wing of earlier origin but with 20th-century elements. The walls are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with blue headers on the east elevation and a Flemish Garden Wall bond with blue headers on the south elevation. The building has rubbed flat arches, stone cills, and a partial plinth. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, although it was formerly tiled.

The north front elevation is regular, consisting of three storeys and four windows, with a Victorian single-storey flat-roofed projection on the west side. The windows are Victorian sashes set in reveals. The doorcase, dating from around 1920, is designed in the full Doric Order and features three-quarter columns, a semi-circular hood, an arched opening with a plain fanlight, and a six-panelled door (two of the panels are glazed), accessed by three stone steps.

The west elevation has three storeys and three windows, with a two-storeyed service wing on the south side that has one window. The windows are Victorian sashes, while the wing has casements. The ground-floor opening on the south side of the main part, which was a former entrance, features a large arch with a fanlight above French windows. The main block has a symmetrical east elevation with three storeys and two windows.
