Description
This building is a low, wide two-storey range, likely originally dating from the 17th century, although it was later refronted. It has a slate roof with a wavy ridge, hipped at the right-hand end. Number 20 is stuccoed with quoins; a splayed bay window extends across both floors to the right, and a square-headed, stuccoed doorway with pilasters and entablature is on the left. The doorway has a half-glazed door with elongated, rounded upper panels. Number 22 is of painted brick, with two two-light wooden casements above and a modern vehicular entry below. Number 24 is also stuccoed, with two two-light casements with small panes above. The ground floor of Number 24 features a splayed shop window, with broken panes resulting from a road accident, and a glazed door to the right.
Numbers 2 to 12 (even), numbers 18, 20, 22, and 24 form a group with numbers 3 to 11 (odd), number 15 West Street, the Water Pavilion at Carshalton House, the boundary wall to Carshalton House in West Street, and The Old Rectory on Festival Walk. The building holds group value from this association.
