Description

This is an 18th-century house with a later 18th-century extension, situated at a right angle to the road. The house is two storeys high with a tiled roof (the front slope now slated), and a weatherboarded exterior. The garden front, facing west, has three window bays, with a splayed bay window extending through both storeys at the right-hand end. A cornice runs along the eaves. The central doorway is topped with a fanlight and a pediment supported by brackets. To the north, a two-storey, one-bay addition has been built, faced with render. A second doorway, also with a fanlight and hood, is located on the south side. The rear front is also rendered. The house was the home of the Whitaker family; one member is buried in Carshalton Churchyard in 1735. Further details can be found in an article by K Gravett in the Surrey Archaeological Society Annual Report of 1966.
