Description
Rose Cottage is a 19th-century building located on West Street in Carshalton. The property has historical ties to a larger 17th-century house that was enlarged in 1809 and likely had its front redesigned at that time. The cottage is two stories tall and features five window bays. It has a slate hipped roof with overhanging eaves. The front is made of brown brick, with the end bays covered in roughcast cladding and flanked by red brick quoined pilasters. The windows are sash style, three panes wide, and the doorcase is adorned with columns that have ornate caps and a triangular dentil pediment, which may have been brought from another location. The entrance includes a modern semi-circular fanlight with radiating tracery and a six-panelled door, where the top four panels are cut away and glazed. Rose Cottage is part of a group that includes Nos 42 and 48, as well as Nos 50 to 64 (even) and Nos 70 to 80 (even).
