Description

Nos 303 and 305 on Richmond Road are semi-detached houses dating from the late 18th century and early 19th century. They are constructed of stock brick with stuccoed dressings and have slate roofs. Uniquely, these houses are built back-to-back rather than side-by-side, each presenting only one bay to the street. Both houses are two storeys tall and feature bays under the main roof. The original windows are sash types set beneath cambered arches, with the first-floor window closest to the road being blocked up. There are semi-circular bays on the ground floor, flanking the entrance, which contain tripartite sash windows, along with a cornice and blocking course above. The roofs are hipped. No 305 retains an original doorcase with a six-panelled door, a tented lead canopy, and a wooden trellis. There are 19th-century extensions to the west, and No 303 has a 20th-century single-storey extension to the south. Both houses preserve their original staircases, and No 305 also retains original internal shutters for the semi-circular bays on the ground floor.
