Description

These are a group of late 18th century brown brick houses with red window arches, forming a terrace on Montpelier Row. The buildings are relatively plain, lacking decorative banding. Nos. 10 and 12 have had a storey added at a later date. Nos. 11, 12 and 13 show evidence of alterations made in the late 18th century, with their first-floor windows having been lengthened by lowering the window sills. No. 9 features a Victorian gabled hood over the front door. No. 10 has an elaborate doorcase consisting of fluted and reeded Ionic three-quarter columns, an enriched pulvinated frieze and a dentilled pediment, topped with a “Gothick” fanlight. No. 11 has an open pedimented hood supported by brackets, and a wooden fanlight. Nos. 12 and 13 both feature rusticated door surrounds and cornice hoods. No. 13 is distinguished by first-floor balconies and includes well-preserved railings and a gate with an overthrow. This group is recognised for its group value, demonstrating a range of architectural details and historical significance.
