Description
The Main Quadrangle, Library, and Chapel at Bancroft's School is a Tudor style school building completed in 1870, designed by Sir Arthur Blomfield. It features a large quadrangular group of buildings made of red brick with spare stone dressings and a steeply pitched tile roof. The symmetrical main front includes a central four-storey gate tower with octagonal corner turrets, a two-tier oriel window, and battlements, likely inspired by the gate tower of St John's College, Cambridge. Other windows are fitted with mullions and transoms, and there are tall gabled dormers. Inside the quadrangle, there are cloisters with later glazing in the arches. The library and chapel boast fine contemporary interiors, and the entrance is marked by wrought iron gates flanked by both stone and wrought iron piers.
