Description

Wimbledon College, including the former mansion attached to the hall, is a school built in 1860 by architect S S Teulon, with additions made between 1865 and 1867 (also by Teulon), and further expansions in 1896 to 1898. The chapel, constructed during this later period, was designed by F A Walters. The building features red brick with black brick patterning and has a slate roof. It has an L-shaped core with 12 bays, three of which are advanced to the right. The structure is three storeys high and includes 2 and 3-light mullioned and transomed windows with pointed arched heads, featuring cuspless plate glass. Paired bays are located beneath hipped gables, and chimneys rise between some of the bays. A spired fleche is situated at the junction of the 'L' shape. The entrance, which is pointed arched, is located in the second bay from the left. A similar architectural treatment is found on the rear of the building. There are mid-20th century additions to the north and west that are not of special interest.
