Description

No. 70 Ridgeway is a detached house, now divided into multiple occupancies, built in 1866 and subsequently altered. The house was designed by Roumieu and is constructed of red brick with polychrome detailing. It has a steeply pitched tiled roof extending to the eaves, and is built in a muscular Gothic style with an irregular composition. The main part of the house is two storeys high, with five bays, four of which are beneath separate roof gables. Gables are present to the left and second from the right bays, while a pair of bays to the right are set back slightly. A steeply gabled porch is located on the left, and to the left of the porch is a two-storey, square bay window with square-headed windows. The window and door openings have an irregular arrangement, including some pointed and some square-headed windows set within pointed reveals. Polychrome bands and diaper decoration are present throughout. The side and rear elevations feature similar detailing.
