Description
Elvetham Hall is a house built between 1859 and 1862, designed by architect S S Teulon. It features additions from 1901 and 1911 and is constructed in the High Victorian Gothic style. The building is made of red brick with stone dressings, bands, and decorative elements in black brick. It has hipped and mansard roofs, along with gables and dormers, and is topped with tall brick chimney-stacks. The overall design is highly varied and ornate.
The entrance front is highlighted by a tall tower porch located behind a porte-cochere. The tower has a mansard roof, dormers, and metal finials. To the right of the tower is a single-storey block, while the left side of the facade is set back and features curved bay windows, shaped gables, and dormers. The garden front is two-storeyed and showcases a great variety of architectural details, including mullioned and transom windows with pseudo-three-centered heads. Brick pilasters between the windows culminate in stone finials, and there is a brick balustrade. The mansard roof includes brick dormers with shaped gables, and to the left, there is a turret and elaborate brick chimney-stacks. The interior is interesting and includes fine fireplaces.
