Description
Elvetham Hall Water Tower is a late 19th-century tall square tower with symmetrical facades. It features a pyramid slate roof adorned with diaper patterns. The parapet has a moulded stone saw-tooth top with seven spikes on each face and small stone finials at the corners. The walls are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with patterns in flush black brickwork, including vertical lines below each point of the parapet, intermediate diamonds, and larger diamonds between two horizontal bands near the top.
The middle stage of the tower has three very tall narrow recesses, each containing a window above another, with painted openings. The main arch is tile-hung, with the top and bottom marked by a black line across the facade, and alternating black and red voussoirs over the opening. The lowest stage features a central doorway with a black hood-mould above the pointed arch, which continues as a horizontal line from the impost level, serving as a cill for small windows on each side. These windows have trefoil openings with stone voussoirs marking the points and a horizontal band at the impost level. Wide horizontal black bands create a "rusticated" effect at the base, which sits on a high plinth.
On the west side, there is an attached chimney stack that narrows towards the top with set-offs and projecting bands. The north side includes a single-storeyed projecting unit with a castellated parapet and three windows in cambered openings, linked by black bands at the impost level. The east side has a larger later extension.
