Description

An early 19th century terrace of nine houses, numbered 37 to 45, is located on Blackheath Road. The terrace comprises three storeys and a basement. Number 37 has three windows, while numbers 39 to 45 each have two. The houses are constructed of yellow stock brick with a stucco frieze, cornice, and blocking course which conceals the roof. A stucco band is present at the sill level of the first floor. The windows are recessed and feature gauged brick arches, with sash glazing bars. The upper floors have flat window heads, while the ground floor windows and doors have rounded heads.

At number 37, the ground floor openings are in round-arched recesses with a stucco spring string. A five-step approach leads to a four-panel door, topped by a guilloche moulded cornice head and a patterned fanlight, with wrought iron hand and area railings. Number 39’s entrance has been altered, featuring a replacement door with a cornice head and patterned fanlight, in a round arched recess with cast iron area railings. Number 41 has three steps to an altered six-panel door, also with a guilloche moulded cornice head and patterned fanlight, set within a round arched recess. It has modern, plain wrought iron area railings. Number 43 retains its original six-panel door with a cornice head and a plain fanlight, in a round arched recess. The area has been opened up and old cast iron railings are now used as the handrail for a bridge leading to the front door. Number 45 has a ground floor front featuring two windows in round arched recesses with a stone spring string. The entrance is to the side, with a modern double door, a guilloche moulded cornice head, and a plain fanlight.

Numbers 37 to 45 form a group value context.
