Description
This is a pair of early 19th century houses located on Blackheath Road. Each house is two storeys high with a basement, featuring one window in the central block and one in a recessed entrance bay. They have a steeply pitched slate roof with an eaves soffit and overhanging verges on the central section, and parapets on the recessed entrance sections. The facades are constructed of multicoloured brick with stucco detailing. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, with the main block windows being three-light. A stone loggia, supported by curved cast iron brackets, extends along the entire ground floor of the main block. This loggia features diamond and fishscale wood trelliswork and a swept lead roof. The front door, which is six-panel, has an upper glazed panel and is recessed within a quasi-Tuscan prostyle porch with square columns, and is surmounted by a cornice and rectangular fanlight. Number 35 has a single-story, one-window extension to the right. The ground in front of the basement windows has been altered to improve light and a bridge has been built from the street to the front door, providing access to the basement. Numbers 23 to 45 (odd) form a group.
