Description

Greenwich Station, which incorporates Number 187, was designed by G. Smith in 1840 and re-erected in 1878. The building has two storeys and features seven windows, along with a two-storey, one-window set-back extension on the right. It has a moderately low pitched, hipped roof that is slated. The chimneys are made of brick and have stone bracketed cornices and shaped blocking courses. The exterior is constructed from greyish yellow stock brick, and it includes a stone frieze and a deep eaves cornice supported by large curved consoles. The sash windows, which have glazing bars, are adorned with stone moulded architraves, outer surrounds, and friezes under deep bracketed cornices. The window in the extension features only an architrave. A stone cill band with a guilloche moulded lower part is present on the first floor, along with a stone plinth. The central entrance has a double door made of eight fielded panels, framed by a doorcase with attached Ionic columns and an entablature. In the extension, there is a single door within a moulded architrave, and above it, a blank stone panel is set in a similar architrave.
