Description

No. 167 on Greenwich High Road is an early to mid-18th century house that has undergone some alterations. It stands three storeys tall with a basement and features three windows. The front, which dates from the mid-19th century, is stuccoed and includes a frieze, a modillion cornice, and a parapet that conceals the roof. The windows have shouldered architraves, with the first-floor windows being moulded and having cornices above them. There are friezes above the first-floor windows as well, and the cills are bracketed and continuous with a string course, which also features sunk panels below. The ground floor is banded and rusticated, topped with a blocking course. The mid-19th century door has a rectangular fanlight with curved top angles and a modified entablature supported by vermiculate pilasters. Surrounding the door is a Gibbs surround with alternating blocks and a keystone that is also vermiculate. Inside, the original staircase features a cut string and two balusters with square knops on each tread. There are three early to mid-19th century fireplaces, one of which retains its original cast iron centre and basket grate. Nos. 165 to 169 form a group with this building.
