Description
Nos. 8 and 9 Chesterfield Street form a terrace of houses dating from the mid-18th century. They are built of brown brick with stuccoed ground floors, topped with slate roofs. No. 8 is four storeys high with a basement, while No. 9 rises to five storeys and also has a basement. Each house has a facade of three windows. The main entrance to No. 8 is centrally located and framed by an architrave with a cornice supported on consoles. The entrance to No. 9 is set to the left and similarly detailed. Windows are revealed sashes, without glazing bars, and are set within flat, gauged arches. The first floor is accentuated by plat bands and a cornice above the second floor, with coped parapets above. A full-width early 19th-century cast iron balcony is positioned on the first floor of No. 8. No. 9 features bowed cast iron balconettes on its first floor. Wrought iron area railings are also present.
