Description
No 20 Charles Street is a terraced town house built around 1750 to 1753. The building is finished in stucco and underwent alterations in the mid to late 19th century. It features three storeys, a basement, and a dormered mansard roof, with a width of five windows. The ground floor is elaborately designed, including an enclosed porch on the right side, with rusticated and vermiculated surrounds to the windows, which are sash windows without glazing bars. The first-floor windows are topped with pediments. A main entablature includes a guilloche frieze and a bracketed cornice, while the parapet is adorned with cast iron cresting. The building has polygonal dormers and highly ornate wrought iron railings surrounding the basement area and the first-floor balcony. A plaque from the London County Council commemorates the residence of the 5th Earl of Rosebery.
