Description
Nos 18B, 19A, and 19 on Charles Street are a block of large houses built around 1900 in the Arts and Crafts Georgian style. The building is constructed from Bath stone and features an irregular composition on a corner site. It has four storeys, an attic, and a basement, with nine bays facing Charles Street and a lower four-bay return to Chesterfield Hill.
A notable feature is the polygonal corner turret topped with a timber storey and a low pointed spire. The ground floor showcases channelling and projecting Ionic porches, while there is a continuous balcony on the first floor. The design includes a pair of canted three-storey bays that reach the roofline. The first-floor windows are square-headed, architraved, and sashed, adorned with carved open pediments and prominent keystones. Above the third floor, there is a modillion cornice, and the windows have glazing bars. Additionally, iron area railings are present.
