Description

No. 6 Chesterfield Hill is a modest terrace house that was originally a pub. It dates from the late 18th century and underwent alterations in the 1920s. The building is finished in stucco and has a tiled roof. It stands three storeys high with a dormered mansard roof. The facade features three windows wide, arranged as two plus one, and has a two-window return to Hay's Mews. The channelled ground floor was built out for the former pub in the early 19th century and includes an architrave doorcase with ornate console brackets supporting the cornice on the right, and a wide window on the left with three glazing bar sash lights. The upper floors have flush framed glazing bar sashes. The parapet is topped with plain coping. The interior was refurbished and decorated by Arthur J. Davis of Mewes and Davis, who lived in the house from 1925 to 1936.
