Description
The monument to the Chandless family is located approximately 14 metres southeast of the Church of St Mary in Paddington Green, Westminster. It dates from the early 19th century and is constructed of ashlar stone on a renewed brick base. The monument has a rectangular shape with recessed angles that feature partly fluted Doric columns. Each face of the monument has inscription plaques. The cornice and blocking course are situated above the columns.
The north side commemorates Mary Chandless, who died in 1807, and her husband Thomas Chandless, who died in 1823. The west side honors Caroline, who died in 1834, the wife of Thomas Chandless, along with their daughter Blanche, who also died in 1834, and Thomas Chandless, who passed away in 1883. The south side is dedicated to William, the son of Thomas Chandless, who died in 1896, while the east side commemorates Henry Chandless, who died in 1893.
