Description
No. 70 St. Martin's Lane, including No. 27 Garnick Street, is a bank building located on a corner site, dating from around 1860. It is constructed of painted brick with stucco dressings and features a slate roof. The design reflects a late neo-classical style with some Italianate details. The building has three storeys and a basement, with a seven-window wide facade that curves around the corner.
The central entrance is located at the corner of the stucco ground floor, featuring a semicircular keystoned arched opening with a panelled door and fanlight. The ground floor also has plate glass windows set in semicircular arched openings, all framed by Tuscan pilasters that support an entablature with a dentil cornice.
The upper floors are adorned with stucco rusticated block dressings and have recessed sash windows without glazing bars, set within stucco architraves. The first floor features console-bracketed dentil cornices, while a console-bracketed cornice with a crowning balustrade tops the building. Wrought iron railings enclose the ground floor in front of the basement lights.
