Description
Nos. 13 to 17 Old Compton Street are terrace houses that include No. 40A Greek Street. They feature fabric that dates back to the late 17th century or early 18th century but were largely rebuilt or refaced around 1786, with early to mid-20th century alterations. The buildings are stucco-faced with concealed roofs and stand four storeys tall. No. 13 has a front that is three windows wide, while No. 15 has a two-window front, and No. 17 has two and a half bays; the latter two houses appear to be of late 17th or early 18th century origin. The ground floors have mid-20th century shop fronts. On the upper floors, No. 13 features blind central windows and recessed glazing bar sashes in the outer bays. No. 15 retains glazing bar sashes on the upper floors, while No. 17 has blind half windows on the left side, with recessed sashes and intact glazing bars on the second floor. The buildings have a parapet with coping. The interiors have been significantly altered, although No. 17 retains a staircase with moulded closed strings, while the other two houses have renewed or boxed-in stairs.
