Description

Numbers 15A and 17 to 49 on Gower Street is a terrace of 18 houses, with Nos 15A to 39 built in 1783 and Nos 41 to 49 completed in 1785. The frontages of Nos 37 to 41 have been rebuilt in a similar style but feature only one doorway, which is located at No. 39. The buildings are constructed of darkened yellow stock brick and have a stucco band on the first floor adorned with a guilloche pattern. They feature slated mansard roofs with dormers.

The terrace consists of three storeys, with attics and basements; however, Nos 25 and 39 have four storeys and basements. Each house typically has three windows, while No. 49 has an unfenestrated return to Chenies Street. The round-arched doorways are framed by fluted pilasters, cornice-heads, fanlights, and panelled doors, with most doorways having panelled reveals and some featuring radial patterned fanlights. The recessed sash windows have gauged brick flat arches, with some windows including glazing bars. The ground and first-floor windows are equipped with bracketed sills and cast-iron guards, and there are parapets above.

No. 15A has an entrance in an arched porch extension that returns to Store Street, with four windows in the ground floor extension and two at the first-floor level. Nos 19 and 21 feature an early 20th-century stone entablature with a bracketed cornice and fluted frieze. No. 21 has a stone entrance surround with Doric half columns supporting an entablature.

The interiors have not been inspected. The terrace also includes attached cast-iron railings with urn finials to the areas in front of the houses.
