Description
TQ 2780 NW CITY OF WESTMINSTER SUSSEX PLACE, W2 66/1 Nos 31 to 41 (odd) 10.4.75 GV II Terraced house with shops. c.1835-40, possibly by George Gutch; some early C20 alterations, in keeping. Stucco, slate roofs. 3 storeys, with attic storey to Nos 35 and 37. Each front 2 windows wide (Nos 35 and 37 and 39 and 41 each built as single fronts). The front of Nos 35 and 37 bows out in quadrant curve with narrowing of street. Ground floor has early C20 shop fronts and there is a dentil-corniced, pier-flanked doorway to Nos 35 and 37. Deep fascia and block cornice continuous across ground floor. Upper floors have recessed glazing bar sashes with slightly projecting lintels, dropped as ears either side of window heads. Deep sill bands, cornice and blocking course; attic storey of Nos 35 and 37 with crowning cornice and blocking course. The History of Tyburnia; G Toplis; Country Life 15, 22 November 1973.
