GV II

Guardhouse. c1833 by Sir Frederick Smith, consultant Philip Hardwick. Stucco, slate roof. Grecian Doric guardhouse-lodge at east gate entrance to parade ground from Bird- cage Walk. Single storey. 6 windows long. Projecting entrance bays to north and south sides with Greek Doric columns in antis carrying entablatures with pediments, architraved doorways, that to Birdcage Walk blocked. Tetrastyle Greek Doric portico to west end by gate, containing entrance to guardroom with panelled door and fanlight recessed in architrave and flanked by pilasters. Recessed glazing bar sashes, in architraves, to Birdcage Walk and parade ground, both articulated by Doric pilasters carrying entablature and blocking course. In antis Greek Doric portico to east end.
