Description
Nos. 17 to 21 Garrick Street is a terraced block of chambers and shops built around 1860 by architect F. Marrable. The building is constructed of stucco and features a slate roof. It is part of a symmetrical Italianate design that balances with Nos. 9 to 13 and flanks the Garrick Club, also designed by Marrable.
The structure has four storeys above a basement, with a dormered mansard roof. The central doorway is flanked by pilasters, and the ground floor has altered shop windows topped by an entablature supported by console brackets. The upper floors feature architraved casement windows, with those on the second floor set within a blind, pilastered arcade adorned with keys and putti in the tympani. A deep console bracketed cornice crowns the third floor. Additionally, there is a cast iron balcony above the ground floor entablature, another cast iron balcony on the third floor, and iron window guards on the second and third floor windows.
