Description
No. 2 Queen Anne's Gate is an end of terrace townhouse built between 1825 and 1830. It features a stucco facade and a slate roof. The main front faces St James's Park, while the entrance front is on Old Queen Street, accessible by Cockpit Steps. The building has four storeys and a dormered mansard, with the basement appearing as a lower ground floor on the Park side.
The entrance front has four windows, while the Park front has five. There is a shallow enclosed stuccoed Doric pilastered porch with an entablature located in the second bay from the left. The windows are recessed glazing bar sashes. The ground floor has an entablature above it, and the first floor features a pseudo-parapet with coping that serves as a sill course. A crowning cornice and blocking course complete the top of the building. The area railings are made of cast iron with a plumbed spike design.
On the St James's Park front, there is a central break with a canted bay at the basement and ground floor levels, and a three-window bow at the first floor. The second and third floors of the break are flanked by pairs of quoin pilasters and topped with a deeply moulded pediment that contains a lunette window. The windows here are also recessed glazing bar sashes. A balustraded balcony spans the ground floor, while a delicate cast iron shallow 'S' pattern balcony is positioned over the bow, supported by slender cast iron columns that also hold a similarly patterned balcony in front of the third-floor window.
