Description
No. 24 Old Queen Street is a terraced town house that was rebuilt in the late 18th century, likely between 1690 and 1700. The building features dark brick and a slate roof, rising four storeys with a basement and a dormered mansard. Its front is four windows wide and symmetrical around a central entrance. The entrance includes a fielded panel door set within a wooden architrave, flanked by fluted pilasters and topped with consoles that support an enriched cornice-hood. The recessed sash windows are placed under flat gauged arches. There is a stuccoed sill band on the first floor, a main cornice made of stucco or painted stone above the second floor, and a stucco cornice with a blocking course at the attic level. The property is enclosed by cast iron area railings featuring flambe torch finials. The rear elevation, facing St James's Park, is simpler, with a three-window canted bay and a coped parapet, recessed glazing bar sashes, and a geometric patterned cast iron balcony on the first floor.
