Description
The lamp post outside 28 Bedfordbury is a Grade II listed gas street light, featuring an Eddystone type column dated 1910, paired with an early 20th-century Grosvenor lantern.
This lamp post is made of cast iron and has a glazed lantern constructed from iron and spun copper. The column is tapering and fluted, identified as model 1274 in the 1904 William Sugg catalogue, known as the 'Eddystone'. The base of the column displays the Westminster City Council crest on one side and the royal cypher G V R along with the date 1910 on the other. The Grosvenor lantern features tapered and curved glazing panels within a copper casing, topped with a decorative fret and an ogee-shaped finial. It includes a top access hatch, indicating it was made before the Second World War. Inside, the lantern houses a four-light mantle and a Horstmann 14 day control clock.
