Description

Nos. 17 and 18 New Row are a terrace house with a shop, rebuilt around 1800 to 1820, with alterations to the ground floor in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of yellow stock brick with a slate roof. It is four storeys high and three windows wide. The ground floor has a wooden warehouse frontage with panelled pilasters framing the openings. A house doorway is located on the left, featuring a panelled door and a margin-glazed fanlight, topped by an entablature-fascia with ornate console brackets. The upper floors contain recessed sash windows with glazing bars, set under flat, gauged arches. The central windows on the second and third floors are blind. A parapet with coping runs along the roofline. The buildings were originally part of the 1630s Bedford Estate development of New Row, alongside Covent Garden.
