Description
The White Swan Public House is a terraced building located on New Row in the City of Westminster. It has origins dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, but was refaced and altered in the mid-19th century. The exterior is stuccoed and features elaborate stucco dressings, including vermiculated quoin blocks, and has a slate roof. The building stands four storeys high and is three windows wide.
The ground floor has a wooden framed public house front with a central window and flanking doors, which are supported by pilasters that carry an entablature. The upper floors feature segmental arched glazing bar sashes set within enriched architraves that have keystones. The first floor windows are adorned with enriched consoles that flank swagged friezes and support cornices above. These decorative elements appear to cover the original openings. Additional features include enriched sill bands and plat bands, as well as a parapet with roll moulded coping. Inside, the pub has a panelled interior that includes some mid to late 19th century engraved glass.
