Description
Nos. 14 to 16 Bedford Street is a block of shops and chambers built around 1863 by the architect S.S. Teulon. The building is constructed of stucco and has slate roofs. It features a relatively conventional design in the Italianate style for Teulon, rising to four storeys. Each front is three windows wide. The ground floor has a continuous range of shop fronts supported by pilasters that carry an entablature-fascia, flanked by paired brackets; however, the shop windows and doorways have mostly been altered. The upper floors display architraved sash or casement windows with keystones, and the façade is articulated by superimposed orders on the first and second floors, with Ionic columns above Doric columns. The building is topped with a main dentil cornice, flanked by console-brackets and a balustraded parapet. Additionally, there are cast iron balconies on the first floor windows.
