23 and 24, Henrietta Street WC2

Nos. 23 and 24 on Henrietta Street in Westminster is an office block built between 1885 and 1886 by Spencer Chadwick. The building features plain and moulded red brick with a slate roof and is inspired by mid-17th century Dutch Renaissance details, which are finely executed. It stands four storeys tall, with a basement and attics, and has later dormers in a mansard style. The facade is four windows wide, with a mid-20th century frontage and fascia on the ground floor. The upper floors have recessed glazing bar sash windows set in moulded brick architraves, with pediments above the first floor windows. The design is articulated through two storeys by pilasters with stone bases and Ionic capitals, bordered by rusticated brickwork. Above the second floor, there is a main entablature, and the attic storey features short rusticated pilasters with a secondary cornice below the added dormers.
