Description

No. 15 King Street is a terrace house and shop, built in 1773. The building is constructed of stock brick with a slate roof and demonstrates a more refined design than typical for its type, influenced by the style of James Paine. It is four storeys high with dormers in a mansard roof. The shop front on the ground floor was altered in the mid-20th century. Upper floor windows are centrally placed; the first floor has an elliptical arched recess containing a Venetian sash window with pilasters, while the second floor features a tripartite sash window with pilasters and a shallow entablature. The third floor has a segmentally arched recessed tripartite sash window. A parapet with stone coping finishes the front. The interior retains original features, including a geometrically designed staircase lit from above, located between the front and back rooms. Regency-style fireplaces and enriched pilaster cornices are also present on the plain walls.
