Description
Nos. 19-23 on Sir Thomas Street, which also includes No. 45 Whitechapel, are shops built in the 1860s. The building features a stucco exterior and a slate roof, standing three storeys high with six bays. It has a canted corner bay and two additional bays facing Whitechapel. The ground floor has been altered in the 20th century, but the entrance remains in the first bay. The second and fifth bays project slightly forward. On the first floor, there are windows arranged in a pattern of 1:2:2:2:2:1, with the windows in the central bays supported by pilasters. All windows are sash style and do not have glazing bars. The cornice is present above the first floor. The second floor features windows with three round-headed lights in the central bays, separated by a carved panel. The wide, bracketed sills have apron panels. The other bays have shouldered arched windows, with the second and fifth bays having balconies and pediments above. The building is topped with a bracketed cornice and a central stack that also has a cornice.
