Description

The Bank of Liverpool is a bank building located at 45 Victoria Street, which includes No. 24 Sir Thomas Street. It was designed by G.E. Grayson and completed in 1882. The structure is built of stone with a grey granite base, featuring attached columns and pilasters. It stands three storeys high with a basement and attic, comprising seven bays with canted corner bays and five bays facing Sir Thomas Street.

The ground floor showcases channelled rustication and includes an inserted cashpoint in the canted corner bay to the left. Each storey is adorned with entablatures. The ground floor has casement windows, while the upper floors feature sash windows without glazing bars. The central entrance is framed by a granite doorcase, topped with a frieze that displays foliage and the words "BANK OF LIVERPOOL," along with a segmental pediment decorated with coins and the date.

On the first floor, round-headed windows are set in rectangular recesses, with carved panels in between. The central three windows have square heads and are supported by an attached Doric colonnade, flanked by paired pilasters, and feature balustraded balconies. The second floor windows have pediments, echoing the design of the first floor. The attic storey includes two-light windows set between carved panels. A cornice with a central open pediment rests on panelled pilasters, which contains a round-arched recess displaying arms. The corner bays are embellished with carved panels and round pediments, accompanied by flanking chimneys. The facade on Sir Thomas Street mirrors the design of the Victoria Street side.
