Description

The Municipal Annexe, which includes an area balustrade, railings, and lampholders attached, is a building originally constructed as a club, now serving as public offices. It was built between 1882 and 1883 by architects F. and G. Holme. The structure is made of ashlar stone and features a slate roof. It stands three storeys tall with a basement and attic, comprising six bays, including a recessed curved corner bay and six bays facing Sir Thomas Street. The design is mostly symmetrical, except for the entrance on the right, which has an open pediment supported by brackets and is flanked by paired rusticated Corinthian pilasters and banded twin piers. The sides of the building project slightly and feature a Venetian window on the first floor, along with an iron balcony that connects the wings on the first floor. The windows on the first floor are round-arched with decorative putti in the spandrels, and the wings have pavilion roofs with pedimented windows. The middle section has four attic windows in a mansard roof. The facade facing Sir Thomas Street is treated similarly. Inside, there is a panelled entrance hall and an open well staircase with marble columns. The first-floor room includes panelling, a fireplace, and a moulded plaster ceiling. The property also features balustrading and iron railings in front, along with iron lampholders. The building was originally constructed as the Conservative Club.
