Club, now public offices. 1882-3. F. and G. Holme. Ashlar, with slate roof, 3 storeys with basement and attic, 6 bays with recessed curved corner bay and 6 bays to Sir Thomas Street. Symmetrical except for entrance on right with open pediment on brackets flanked by paired rusticated Corinthian pilasters and banded twin piers. Sides project with Venetian window on 1st floor, and iron balcony joining the wings on 1st floor: Corinthian columns and pilasters between windows (lst floor round-arched with putti in spandrels). Wings with pavilion roofs and pedimented windows. 4 attic windows in mansard roof of middle part. Sir Thomas Street facade similarly treated. Interior has panelled entrance hall and open well staircase with marble columns 1st floor room with panelling, fireplace and moulded plaster ceiling. Include balustrading and iron railings to area in front, and iron lampholders. Built as the Conservative Club.
